ADVANCED ENGLISH PROGRAM FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. If I pass the English Proficiency Exam and start my faculty in the 2022–2023 Academic Year, which Advanced English courses and credits am I required to take?
Students who score between 60–74 on their first English Proficiency Exam, must take all three courses offered by Advanced English Program—ING 100 (3 credits), ING 112A (2 credits), and ING 201A (2 credits)—in sequence, completing a total of 7 credits. Students who score 75 or higher on the exam are exempt from ING 100 and are required to take ING 112A and ING 201A in sequence, completing a total of 4 credits.

2. Can I register for ING 112A in the same semester that I am enrolled in the exemption CRN for ING 100?
If you scored 75 or above on the English Proficiency Exam and are therefore exempt from ING 100, you must be enrolled in the ING 100 exemption CRN in that semester. However, you cannot register for ING 112A in the same semester, because the prerequisite for ING 112A is to have passed ING 100 with a valid grade and for this to appear on your transcript. Even if the system allows you to register for ING 112A, the Registrar’s Office will drop your enrollment within a certain period.

3. If I am not satisfied with the grade I received in ING 100, can I retake the English Proficiency Exam, score 75 or higher, and then be considered exempt from ING 100 with an AA grade?
The exam that determines your exemption from Advanced English courses is the first English Proficiency Exam you take. Only the result of that first exam will be considered for exemption. Scores you receive from any later Proficiency Exam(s) will not affect your exemption status.

4. To pass the Preparatory Program and be exempt from ING 100 (one of the Advanced English courses), do I have to take only the English Proficiency Exam? Are there alternative exams?
There are standard exams that are recognized by our university as equivalent to the English Proficiency Exam.
