Why Arabic Language should be learned?
- The Arabic language belongs to the Semitic language group and is spoken by more than 422 million people around the world, according to United Nations statistics.
- It is considered the first language in the Levant, the Arabian Peninsula, and North Africa.
- The number of countries that speak it reaches 23 countries.
- Learning Arabic is an essential tool in preparing for career paths in political science, international affairs, Middle Eastern studies, international business, peace studies, and international law.
- The Arabic language has many sounds, such as specific throat sounds that don't exist in any other languages.
- The Arabic language was called the language of the “dhaad” because it is the only letter that does not exist in any other language in the world, and it is also difficult for non-Arabic speaking peoples to pronounce it.
Arabic course program aims to:
- creating a learner-centered learning environment.
- helping students acquire higher-order thinking skills.
- helping students gain cultural awareness.
- helping students gain tasteful knowledge based on effective learning, not memorization.
- activating four basic language skills (listening-speaking-reading-writing) by the help of the communicative approach.
General Information
Elective Arabic Language Courses are for students registered at all the faculties and/or schools of our university.
ARB 101: is for absolute beginners. Therefore, students who will register for the first time are kindly requested to enroll in ARB 101.
ARB 102: is not suitable for beginners, but it requires a basic knowledge of the language. Students who think that they have knowledge of Arabic Language and it would be appropriate to enroll in ARB 102 course should contact one of the
instructors.
According to ITU regulations, students must attend 70% of classes. This means that students cannot miss more than 16 hours of the course. Additionally, students who do not attend the class for 4 consecutive days will automatically fail the course,
losing their right to be evaluated. Students who do not attend the midterm exam will receive a zero as a mark; therefore, cannot pass the course.
